Tens and Ones Time

We spent the whole week learning how to read, count and write tens and ones in math.   My kiddos had a lot of practice with hands on tens and ones counting, writing numbers in the correct place value spot and of course finishing up the week playing some 10s and 1s games to reinforce the skill in a fun way :)
Keep practicing at home, we'll have our first Math test on Monday

Here Melina and Jessica are playing "Tens and Ones Top it"
You can't top this partnership!  Aidan and Amani played the game so well together.

Cole and Robert partnered up to play too!

Building tens and ones is always more fun
when you can spin your way to the number!

Kiera is all smiles taking her turn with the spinner :)
Bradyn and Taylor made a good team.
We always have to throw in a few Daily 5 pictures,
I think it's your child's favorite part of the day.  Not sure?  Ask them!
Ask them to sit EEKK with you to read a story this weekend :)
Terrance and Kenny sit EEKK! for Read to Someone.

Melina is enjoying her Listen to Reading time.
Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Duncan,
we added two extra iPhones to our listening centers!
Woo-hoo, thanks guys!!

Devonte is working hard on "Write and Stamp".

Building words with Play-doh is a favorite with Cole
.......and everyone else!

By far, everyone's favorite is sight word cup stacking!

Have a great weekend...try to stay dry!

1st Full Week...success!

With our first full week under our belts, I am proud to say that we are coming together as a cooperative learning community really well :) I've overheard many kind words and saw lots of helping hands and polite gestures from one Firstie to another. So awesome to see!

We have been working really hard at learning how the Daily 5 works so we can begin guided reading groups as soon as possible. We also had lots of fun making a super long chain of number cards from 1-100.

Can't wait to see meet you all next Tuesday at 7:00 for back to school night.

Funny Face Firsties

Well made it through our first week with a lot of laughs and fun to go along with our learning :) One of the kiddos' favorite activities was the find a friend game. They each had a chart with categories like: find a friend with different color eyes than you, or one who likes pizza or one who can tie their shoes. When they found a friend that fit the category they would ask that friend to sign their name. Their favorite (and mine) was to find a friend who can cross their eyes or roll thier tongue! Hilarity ensued as we were all cracking up watching each other try it!

I am so excited to have such a fun loving group of kiddos.  Looking forward to a great year!
